Personnel Policy Analysis and Development
Every organization can benefit from taking the time to discuss and clarify workplace policy and rules, but that is not the only reason to undertake such a project. Equally important is management’s ability to promote compliance with employment rules and regulations, such as Fair Labor Standards and Equal Employment, and communicate principles and standards, such as business ethics and professional conduct. The single greatest mistake made in this area by employers, is the assumption that any set of policies and procedures will do, when in fact, greater perils befall the employer who misrepresents policy and practice at the workplace. Not only is consistency between policy and practice relevant to good management, the only true benefit from such a project arises from the process of discussion and attention to the issues that create the need in the first place. Therefore, although policies and procedures may appear standard in language and format, seemingly insignificant word changes, additions and deletions, may make all the difference in the world. We do best with clients who are interested in undertaking the process of review and discussion of critical policy areas to arrive at a tight, well-written, non-legalistic document that employees understand and perceive as a reflection of the their workplace.
